A PRIVATE CONTROLLED DRUG PRESCRIBER CODE is allocated by the NHS Prescription Services to private prescribers who prescribe schedule 2 and 3 controlled drugs that are intended to be dispensed by registered pharmacies.
Note: A registered pharmacy means premises for the time being entered in the register required to be kept under the Medicines Act 1968 by the Registrar of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.

Private Nurses
Private Pharmacists
Private Optometrists
Private Physiotherapists
Private Radiographers
Private Podiatrists
Each Private Controlled Drug Prescriber is linked to one Primary Care Trust. This is the responsible Primary Care Trust which will not necessarily be the geographic Primary Care Trust.
