A Neonatal Unit is a part of a hospital which provides care for babies who are born prematurely (before 37 weeks' gestation), with a medical condition which needs treatment, or at a low birthweight.
This includes all levels of neonatal care, comprising Special Care Baby Units (level 1), Local Neonatal Units (level 2) and Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) (level 3).
