A Commissioning Support Unit (CSU) is an ORGANISATION.
Commissioning Support Units are hosted within the NHS Commissioning Board (NHS CB).
By April 2016 all Commissioning Support Units will become independent ORGANISATIONS and be external from the NHS Commissioning Board.
Commissioning Support Units provide Clinical Commissioning Groups with external support, specialist skills and knowledge to support them in their role as commissioners, for example by providing:
- Business intelligence services
- Clinical procurement services
- Business support services such as Human Resources (HR), payroll, procurement of goods and services and some aspects of informatics.
