An Antenatal Booking Appointment is a CARE CONTACT.
An Antenatal Booking Appointment is the APPOINTMENT where the woman enters the maternity care pathway, characterised by information giving and detailed history-taking to help the woman choose the most appropriate Antenatal care pathway.
It also includes measurement of Height, Weight, Blood Pressure and blood tests for determining blood group, rubella status and haemoglobin level. Blood and urine samples for screening may also be taken at Antenatal Booking Appointment after the woman has been well informed and has given her consent. The Antenatal Booking Appointment follows the first contact with a health professional.
This is in accordance with the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence 'CG62 Antenatal Care'.
