ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT

A record that a PATIENT has received treatment from an NHS Hospital Provider as a result of a road traffic accident.

This information should be recorded for each PATIENT who has been admitted to, or received any treatment from an NHS hospital as a result of a road traffic accident. It will relate to all patient care received by the PATIENT from the NHS Trust, regardless of whether it is accident and emergency, consultant out-patient, non-consultant out-patient, or whether the PATIENT was admitted to the Trust.

The date of first contact with the Trust is required, which for admitted PATIENTS will be the date of first admission. Also required for admitted PATIENTS are the total number of days spent in hospital, and whether or not they have been discharged.

These details are necessary to facilitate the recovery of road traffic accident charges through personal injury compensation under the Road Traffic (NHS Charges) Act 1999.
