The Parent-Infant Relationship Global Assessment Scale (PIR-GAS) is a type of ASSESSMENT TOOL.
The Parent-Infant Relationship Global Assessment Scale is a 90-point scale used to assess the quality of an infant-parent/carer relationship based on a continuum from well adapted to grossly impaired.
It should be completed only after a thorough clinical evaluation of the infant's (aged 0-5 years) problems. The relationship problems may stem from within the infant, within the parent/carer(s), between the infant and the parent/carer, or from the larger social environment.
The Parent-Infant Relationship Global Assessment Scale does not directly correlate to the Children's Global Assessment Scale. The system is designed to help clinicians recognise individual differences in ways infants and young children relate to their primary parent/carer.
