A HIV Episode is an episode of care comprising of one or more HIV Clinic Attendances with a Health Care Provider where a PATIENT attends for the care and treatment of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).
The HIV Episode:

        startson the date the PATIENT: - 
            is first diagnosed with HIV or 
- 
            is in contact with a CARE PROFESSIONAL in respect of a REFERRAL REQUEST from a Health Care Provider or 
- 
            presents as a self referral.

        endson the date the PATIENT : - 
            is formally discharged from the main Health Care Provider or 
- 
            dies.
