Relationship Optionality
A dotted line next to an entity type in a diagram indicates that the relationship to the other entity type connected to the line is optional, i.e. that it may not exist.
A solid line next to an entity type in a diagram indicates that the relationship to the other entity type connected to the line is mandatory, i.e. that it must exist.
