Childrens Global Assessment Scale

The Children's Global Assessment Scale (CGAS) is a type of ASSESSMENT TOOL.

It is a global rating of functioning aimed at children and young people aged 6-17 years.  The child or young person is assessed against different levels of functioning from 0 "Needs constant supervision" to 100 "Superior functioning in all areas".

Ratings can be at 10- increment points or as an actual score (e.g. 53).

The following score ranges are defined:

0-10Needs constant supervision (24 hour care)
11-20Needs considerable supervision
21-30Unable to function in almost all areas
31-40Major impairment in functioning in several areas
41-50Moderate degree of interference in functioning
51-60Variable functioning with sporadic difficulties
61-70Some difficulty in single area
71-80No more than slight impairment in functioning
81-90Good functioning
91-100Superior functioning in all areas
